Introduction

Locating devices in indoor environments has become a key issue for many emerging location‐based applications (LBA) in different fields. However, contrary to what usually happens outdoors with well‐developed GNSS technology, nowadays there is no overall and easy solution. Despite a large‐scale deployment of such location systems is not available yet, this strategic topic is called to lead technological innovations of great impact on the daily activities of people in the coming years, in areas such as health and independent living, leisure, security, etc. Since the first edition, IPIN 2010, held in Zurich (Switzerland) with about 450 participants from academia and industry, this conference has been an excellent forum to bring together researchers, developers and service providers in positioning and indoor navigation. Subsequent editions, held in Guimaraes (Portugal), Sydney (Australia), Montbéliard (France), Busan (Korea) and Banff (Canada), also have shown that there is a large and active community working in this sector. The 2016 edition will be held in the University of Alcalá, Spain. It is planned to have seminar training, technical sessions, doctoral forums, exhibitions and competitions.

Types of submissions

Authors are invited to submit high-quality technical papers reporting original work, neither previously published nor currently submitted for consideration elsewhere. Authors can consider two types of submissions:

  • Regular Papers (limited to 8 double-column pages and preferably for oral presentation).
  • Work-in-Progress -WIP- (limited to 4 double-column pages, including oral or poster presentation).

Manuscripts must be submitted electronically in PDF format. All the papers (regular and WIP) will follow a peer review process. All the accepted papers will be included in the conference proceedings and regular papers presented at the conference will be also submitted to IEEE Xplore Digital Library. Best papers will be awarded during the conference.

Opportunity for authors to send technically extended version of conference papers to IEEE Transactions on Instrumentation and Measurement (TIM)

It is possible to submit technically extended versions of in-situ presented IPIN2016 conference papers to TIM as regular issue paper, provided that particular submission rules (those intended for special issue papers) are followed.

It is important to note that all submissions shall be within the SCOPE of TIM; authors are kindly invited to check this link Scope of Transactions and, particularly, this other: 10.1109/MIM.2015.7108397. Submissions will follow a standard peer review process managed by TIM EiC and AEs.

The manuscript must be submitted electronically using the web-based submission system (please, see there instruction for authors). The paper will be sent as regular paper, although as mentioned before the following additional requirements must be satisfied:

  • The manuscript must be TECHNICALLY EXTENDED beyond the scope of the proceedings paper (in terms of the overall TECHNICAL content and research results).
  • At the time of submission, the authors must provide a separate file with detailed information regarding how the manuscript is a technically-extended version of the proceedings paper. Do not include this explanation in the cover letter, because this letter is not visible to the reviewers
  • The proceedings paper MUST be clearly referred to in the text and listed as one of the references in the special-issue manuscript
  • A PDF copy of the proceedings paper must also be submitted

Notice: The IPIN 2016 paper identifier should be put in the upper right-hand corner of every document to be submitted.

In order to try to have all the accepted papers in the same issue, please submit your manuscripts after the conference closes and before the 30th of November, 2016.
